1.1. Schumer pushes bill to give Pride flag same status as US, military flags
How many people want this? How many people are offended by this? This sounds like a bad idea. Like Democrats are trying to fail.
1.2. Savannah teacher killed in crash by man fleeing from ICE
This is always tough. Do we let people get away, or do we risk collateral damage?
1.3. Trans dad Robert Dorgan shoots wife, 3 kids in horrid ‘family dispute’ at crowded RI hockey arena as players and fans are seen scrambling to safety
I know it's hard, but if you have a family member like this, you've got to do the right thing. Get help.
1.4. Thune guarantees voter ID bill to hit the Senate despite Schumer, Dem opposition: 'We will have a vote'
Is this sound strategy? Maybe. But give me a date. I'd like to know when to find out what happens.
1.5. Ballot language for Virginia redistricting referendum criticized for misleading voters
Assuming the districts were already fair, this is deceptive language. Even if it isn't fair, that type of language should not be used. Persuasive language should be banned from the ballot.
1.6. Warner Bros. Discovery restarts takeover talks with Paramount Skydance
Such a strange story. Paramount offers a better deal, it gets denied, Netflix wins, now Paramount has a chance again? Probably some regulatory thing Netflix is trying to prevent.
1.7. OSI reports IRGC attacking people in Abdanan
Is Trump going to save the people of Iran? Is it in our best interest to start that fight? Is it possible we've already captured some leadership? War is crazy these days.
1.8. Colbert defies CBS over interview with Texas Senate candidate
Bazaar. Colbert is out anyway, so he can talk. If this is true we have issues. We shall see.
2. Extra words nobody asked for
There is a thing, that we all need to do. We need to talk, write, read, discuss, and most importantly, understand each other.
We need to be free to speak freely. That freedom only comes from within. Often we censor ourselves. Often there are laws that encourage us to censor ourselves.
Look at this recent Canada shooting involving the trans individual. They were hesitant to say it for fear of social and legal rebuke.
Look at the nearly complete lack of social discourse about all these trans shooters.
Once upon a time we had a dress style called "Androgynous" which colloquially was people who dressed in ways which did not conform to social norms and expectations in relation to gender.
This was mostly fine.
Now, we have more extreme forms we call "trans". These are people who have hormonal and/or surgical changes. Traditional androgynous types end up lumped into the trans category, but most of what we see are people who believe, or pretend to believe, they are what they are not.
This is a problem. The people who pretend, are probably fine. The people who believe, have some sort of mental illness. We need to be aware of the ones with mental illness, such as the recent shooting by Robert Dorgan.
This man was deeply mentally ill, yet we just let him hang out in society. And what happened? Women and children died.
We all did this. Drogan was just the gun. We are all responsible. We didn't address his mental illness in a way that was beneficial to society. We addressed it with indifference, we addressed it with support.
And by "we" I mean collectively as a society. Why did we kill those people? Because we refused to do what must be done to protect them. It became taboo, for many years, to talk about mental illness in the Trans community.
And if you have friends or family that you know well, you know they have problems.
This man, should have had care. Maybe he needs to be locked up in an institution, maybe he just needed the right outpatient care with monitoring. I don't know, I'm not a doctor, but I am a citizen. And as a citizen, we can't have people like that on the streets.
We need to have these discussions without trying to shut each other down. Our society needs to find a solution that works for it, and implement it.
