2. Extra words for which nobody asked
It's been a few days. Life is a thing sometimes and life is life right now. The RL kind. I may miss some days, but I'll be posting as often as reasonable.
2.1. CPI report shows inflation surged in March as Iran war drove up energy costs
You know. There's lots of stuff going on to drive up inflation, but it still doesn't match the Biden Admin. It's kinda crazy, I'd expect more.
2.2. Automatic military draft registration takes effect in December. Here’s how it would work
I've heard some people freaking out about this, but they're wrong. Even CNN agrees with me.
Men aged 18-26 must sign up anyway. If they don't, they may face legal penalties and may end up drafted anyway should it come to that.
CNN says: "Automatic registration is already in place in 46 states and territories," Which makes it even more moot.
As far as I can tell, the worst thing that happens is that young men don't get in trouble for not signing up anymore.
And according to BridgeLegal.org failure to register can result in massive fines, imprisonment, and other less punitive issues, like not being able to get certain jobs.
2.3. EU quietly ramps up Russian LNG imports despite ban plans – FT
I get that Europe doesn't want to fund Russia by openly buying their energy products. However, the reality is that it's not hurting Russia enough for it to be worth the increased energy costs.
Maybe there's something behind the scenes I don't see, but it doesn't appear that Russia is hurting more than the EU over this issue.
Furthermore, Russia isn't some rogue state where you need to clamp down on them aside from opposition of the Ukraine war. There really does not appear to be any good reason to refuse to buy Russian energy products. Especially when you start seeing things like the Ireland protests start to ramp up.
Oh well, we shall see what happens.
2.4. Battle for Hungary: RT’s definitive guide to the Hungarian election
Just from what I've read, it seems that Trump and Vance support Victor Orban to continue running Hungary, but EU and Ukraine want someone else.
It seems that Trump wants a strong Europe, and the EU wants a strong Ukraine.
Even Facebook is interfering with Hungarian elections. This vote happens on the coming Easter Sunday on APR 12.
But as specifically to this article, Hungary has been working towards having a strong Hungary, in spite of what the EU might want. Which, by the way, is how the EU has been built. Any one nation can veto stuff so… to be mad about it, is to dislike your own system, but i digress.
So, the EU wants someone who will more readily submit to the whims of Brussels, rather than than the needs of Hungary.
Trump wants someone who will focus first on Hungary, with the EU being the supporting role.
Basically, the EU is pushing for a strong Central European government, while removing national strength, and to some extent, identity.
Anyway, read the article. Usually RT articles that aren't just news are pretty… Uhm. Weird. I am highly skeptical of anything that has opinion involved when it comes to RT, but this reads more like a series of news posts to keep people updated on what's going on with Hungary.
Anyway, Easter Sunday holds the fate of Ukraine. Should Orban win, the EU will struggle to fund Kiev. Should someone else win? Well, it's still Hungary, they likely won't want to help out Kiev, but they may want to harm Russia so… Let's find out.
