Happy Mother's Day out there!
1. Recent News
1.1. Farage’s Reform UK wins big in local elections, splintering two-party system and piling pressure on Starmer
Weird, CNN calls the party "hard" right. Is that different from "far"? Anyway, Reform party trounced the competition.
1.2. Putin says he thinks Russia-Ukraine war is coming to an end
Well, maybe that means something.
1.3. Australia's far-right party wins first lower house seat
I don't know anything about this party, but right leaning populism is taking over the Western world.
1.4. CNN obsessed with the hantavirus (no link)
Other than rambling on about hantavirus, not much going on in CNN land.
1.5. He earned a Purple Heart fighting for the US. Swept up in Trump’s immigration crackdown, he now fights to come home
Just a nice story to read. Surprisingly limited bias considering CNN. See below.
1.6. Heroic principal says tackling gunman was "just instinct" and "God's hand was on all of us
Kirk Moore is the hero all of us should strive to be. A true hero of America.
1.7. Pedestrian fatally hit by Frontier airplane departing Denver for Los Angeles, flight canceled after engine fire
Someone jumped the fence, started to cross the runway, and "was at least partially consumed by one of the engines. Damn.
1.8. Russian pavilion opens at Venice Biennale despite sanctions and protests
Another first since the Ukraine conflict started. Been a lot of these. Maybe the war is over.
1.9. UK nurseries told to report ‘racist’ toddlers to police
Gotta stop those racist three year old kids!
1.10. Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged ‘suicide note’ unsealed
I don't think I've reported on this yet. See Below.
1.11. NATO members divided over Ukrainian drone incidents
Interesting. See below.
2. Extra words for which nobody asked
There's more news to cover, but I'm obviously a bit behind. This is already too long. Enjoy!
2.1. He earned a Purple Heart fighting for the US. Swept up in Trump’s immigration crackdown, he now fights to come home
Yea, there's some anti ICE stuff mentioned in the article, but this is a great article about a non-citizen American veteran of foreign wars.
He came to the US as a kid, fought for everything he had, joined the military where he earned a purple heart.
And as the title says "ZOMRJ THIS PURPLE HEART HERO WAS DEPORTED!!!!!"
Which is probably the biggest BS of the whole article, as the actual article goes on to explain that he fell into drugs and earned himself a large rap sheet of felonies.
Ultimately his green card was revoked and he was left in limbo for over a decade while he stayed and worked in the US.
With new immigration policy wanting to take care of all these limbo cases, he got knock from ICE.
He was ultimately given an ankle bracelet and three weeks to deport, which he dutifully did.
A personal message to Sae Joon Park, a message I'm sure he will never read, but none the less…
Thank you for your service, as a fellow purple heart recipient, I know at least a touch of what you went through. A lot of other veterans fell as you did, it's a shame we weren't able to help you through it before you built up a history that made it hard for a green card holder to stay in this country.
Assuming you've cleaned up your life, there's always a chance.
End message
Isn't it crazy that someone with a story like his still wants to be in America? He kinda got a raw deal, but this is where he wants to be.
And he's in South Korea, not exactly a terrible country to be in, and he still wants to come back.
OTOH, it is his home, the article said he spent 49 years here. Arriving at 7.
2.2. Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged ‘suicide note’ unsealed
From the article:
“They investigated me for months – found nothing!!! So 15-year-old charges resurface,” the barely legible handwritten note appears to read.
“It is a treat to be able to choose one’s time to say goodbye. What do you want me to do – burst out crying!! NO FUN – NOT WORTH IT!!” it adds.
So, we have excellent ghost writers, but if you have ever seen an Epstein interview, this sounds exactly like him. Could be legit.
2.3. NATO members divided over Ukrainian drone incidents
Finland said it's unacceptable, obviously. Finland might be against Russia, but they don't take no guff.
Latvia says, "Well, Ukraine can defend itself, this is Russia's fault!" Not surprising. They are pretty racist against Russians over there.
Baltic states are pretty lame. "Oh, it's okay if a country violates our air space if some unrelated party is attacking them."
Or, they allow it.
Finland's Defence Minister condems it hard But in general Finland is like the Baltic states in that they go "Well, these things happen in war, and it's probably due to drones being jammed."
Obviously Ukraine isn't likely targeting these countries, but they can't be having their warheads end up in these other countries.
