This is exactly what Russia and the US want to work together on. We could probably use Finland's help too, as I recall, they are pretty good at the whole icebreaker ship thing, and I doubt they wouldn't want a piece of that oil pie.

This may also be part of why Trump is so adamant on bringing ship manufacturing back home.

This is the logical thing to do.

If you want to use bio weapons on your enemies, trying to force Claude to do it makes sense.

Knowing that adversaries are likely trying to use Claude, or other llm/ml, to research weapons, it also makes sense to research this to come up with countermeasures.

I don't see this as a problem, we all know people will use whatever tech they can to research weapons. Both how to deploy them, and how to defeat them.

Obviously the Iran war caused some issues. The biggest issue is, of course, the futures market which seems to just make up a number for what oil should cost, but that's a whole other discussion.

But yes, attacking Russian oil is certainly going to raise prices, just like how the Iran conflict pushed prices up.

Since oil is a global commodity, it doesn't seem to matter what happens, oil go up.

There could be a small country that all it does is drill oil, and blow it up. And if they did that, even though they aren't part of the global market, oil would still go up.

But yes, this is mostly Ukraine pushing the US away harder and harder. Poland already is starting to hate the country, they really don't need the US turning on them too.

Seriously, you know somebody, somewhere, is doing this. So what, is the US supposed to just go, "Oh sure, we'll just let our enemies develop super weapons which we have no chance to counter, it'll be great for our country!"

For get the United States, ANY country not pursuing weapons in which their adversaries are pursuing is a country destined to fall to the hands of the country(ies) developing the big weapons.

It's the same reason Iran kept going for nukes. They are (were) a strong, large, heavily populated country. The very idea that they wouldn't try for nukes is crazy.

The only reason any country doesn't have nukes, and not working to obtain nukes, is if they are too small to be able to, or have decided to call some other country with nukes their suzerain (or similar).

So these companies are saying, "We are building weapons of mass destruction! No, don't use them in the military! But yes, we will keep building!" Nuts.

There is no reason to ever bring up dismissed charges about someone, unless you are trying to use it against them.

The article seems to be framing this as, "Hah, take that Trump!" but the reality is, this gives Consumers Energy to go back on the shutdown plan and keep it open.

Like, regardless of the legality of the order, this gives Consumers the opportunity to keep it open.
